On Tuesday, April 19, a visit to Whole Foods Market: Darien means more than simply a cart full of natural and organic foods. On this day, Whole Foods will pledge 5 percent of every purchase to the Darien Land Trust to help fund outdoor educational experiences for the entire community.

This year, proceeds from the Whole Foods 5% Day will allow the Darien Land Trust to host a Trails Discovery Day at Dunlap Woods on Sunday, June 5, from 11 to 3 p.m.

Families are invited to explore beautifully maintained woodland trails and participate in numerous activities such as a scavenger hunt, tadpole catch, butterfly garden, bird walk, fairy house project and a hands-on animal exhibit. Stay for lunch and enjoy music and the Melt Mobile food truck (not confirmed yet).

Darien Land Trust logo 4-19-16The Darien Land Trust permanently preserves and restores over 200 acres in Darien, providing the community with environmentally rich habitats, scenic vistas and opportunities for educational experiences.

For the youngest members of our community, the Land Trust hosts discovery filled woodland walks attended by local preschool students and their teachers. For adults, the Land Trust sponsors award-winning documentaries at the Darien Library as well as presentations from accomplished arborists and landscape architects.

Visit the Darien Land Trust table at Whole Foods Market in Darien on Tuesday, April 19 to learn more about the meadows, woodlands and coastal areas that they maintain. Local beekeeper, Peet Foster will be on hand with samples of genuine Darien honey produced on Land Trust properties. Information about all of our events will be available, including the upcoming Farm to Table dinner in August.
