Darien’s Good Wife’s River Chapter, DAR will host their annual holiday party at the residence of Winifred and Tom Lom on Sunday, Dec. 18.

Prospective members, husbands and significant others are invited to attend. RSVP to Corresponding Secretary, Vigee Droesch for food assignments. At this time, DAR Good Citizen Award Chairman, Kim Kiner will present the Good Citizen Award to a community-minded patriotic senior from Darien High School.

Prior to this presentation, GWR Chapter Regent, Katherine Love will conduct a brief business meeting to update members on several important future Connecticut state and local DAR events.

Also at this party, Veteran’s Chairman, Carol Wilder-Tamme will collect comfort items for veterans at the Veteran’s Hospital in West Haven. Delivery will be made prior to the holidays.

All members are encouraged to attend the 125th CTDAR Anniversary Gala held on February 4, 2017 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Wallingford, CT when NSDAR President General, Ann L. Dillon will be the guest speaker.

Plans for the Fifth Grade Essay Contest reception and award ceremony to be held at the Parlor of the Noroton Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, Feb. 7, will be finalized.

The local DAR Chapter also participates in and promotes the annual Wreaths Across America project. Several Good Wife’s River DAR Chapter members partner with Darien’s Monuments and Ceremonies Commission and the local VFW Post #6933 in wreath fundraising efforts.

Several local businesses and Darien High School Support Our Soldiers (SOS) student group also donate and fundraise for the wreaths. The 2016 wreath laying is planned for noon on Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Spring Grove Veteran’s Cemetery in Darien. Spring Grove is one of only three official Veterans’ Cemeteries in the state of CT. The public is invited to attend and participate in this wreath laying event.

Membership in the DAR is open to any woman age 18 or older who can trace her direct lineage to a Patriot who served the cause of American Independence during the Revolutionary War. For applications and information, call 203-656-0857.
