During December, Community Council members approached local merchants and the High School community seeking donations for the silent auction. Generosity prevailed and many beautiful gift baskets were assembled for the auction.

The prom package, which includes 2 tickets to the DHS prom and help from the administration with “The Ask” was a favorite.

Parents and other concert attendees actively bid on the baskets. The proceeds were used to purchase $1,700 worth of gift cards from Kohl’s, Dunkin Donuts and Subway. The Community Council will deliver the gift cards to Darien Department of Human Services and they will be distributed to needy teens during the holidays.

Gift Baskets were filled with items from local merchants, including donations from Andrew Stefanou Spa, Barrett’s Bookstore, Chocolate Works, Coromandel, Darien Cheese and Fine Foods, Darien Library, Espresso Neat, Good Goods, Hairy Barker, Hands on Pottery, Johnny’s Records, Kumon, Pet Valu, Runner’s Roost, Seasons Too, SoNo Bakery, Town House and Uncle’s Deli.

Household Supplies Given to Town Department of Human Services

Through the DHS Advisory program [Darienite.com editor: that’s the school’s bizarre name for “home room”], students donated household supplies during the Dec. 8 Advisory.

The drive was a huge success — the Advisory groups collected close to 400 items. The materials received a police escort; School Resource Officer James Palmieri and History teacher Chris Buckley delivered the household supplies to the Department of Human services.

Olive Hauser, Director of the Darien Department of Human Services said they were overwhelmed by the generosity of the DHS student and families. The gift cards are hugely popular with teens and the household supplies helped restock the agencies’ shelves.
