Update: Tuesday, Aug. 2, 12:08 p.m.:

The Darien Department of Public Works has run into a problem with this year’s road paving, so the dates when streets will be paved has changed.

“Due to an equipment malfunction our program start date has been pushed from Aug. 4, 2016 to Aug. 8,” the department announced at about noon on Tuesday.  “All other dates have been shifted accordingly.”

Here’s the revised schedule (Darienite.com has decreased the size of the original schedule, further below, in order to make it harder to mistake it for the updated one):

This is the revised schedule for 2016 street paving in Darien. It starts Aug. 8 rather than the original date of Aug. 4. (Updated at 12:16 p.m. by the DPW)

Original article: July 29:

The Darien Department of Public Works has announced 14 town streets (or parts of streets) that to be paved this year, including parts of Old Kings Highway South, Middlesex Road, Hollow Tree Ridge Road and Sedgwick Avenue.

Here’s the announcement:

The Town of Darien paving program for the summer of 2016 is as follows:

Table from the Department of Public Works announcement of the street paving schedule.

Preparatory work will precede paving on all of the above roads. Dates listed above include milling and paving. Road surfaces will have raised structures during these dates.

Please avoid these roads if possible during these times or use extra caution if you must travel on these roads. The above schedule is based on favorable weather conditions. Emergency access will be available at all times.

Town of Darien police officers will be present to direct traffic and assist area residents during construction. Driveway access will be limited during paving operations.

However, no single driveway should be closed for more than an hour. On street parking will be suspended during paving operations. Minor traffic delays are likely.

Please plan your travels accordingly. Please call the Department of Public Works at 656-7346 for further information.

Street paving isn’t the only work being done on town roads this summer. Extensive work is also being done on water and gas main lines, and much of the paving is done in conjunction with that.
