At 3 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, someone reported to police that people were wandering through the woods with flashlights near Maplewood Drive, Darien police said.

Police gave this account (with accusations not proven in court) of the incident:

When officers responded to the scene, they found four teenagers with flashlights (although the police report did not indicate exactly where the teens were found, or if they were in the woods, according to a spokesman).

The group was made up of two 15-year-old girls and two 16-year-old boys, all Darien residents. One girl was staying at the home of another, and one boy was staying at the home of another, but the boy’s home was across town, and the two boys had gotten to the Maplewood Drive area on bicycles that night.

One of the boys admitted to police that he had some marijuana in his backpack. Police found two glass marijuana pipes and a small amount of a green, leafy substance that seemed to be marijuana.

Nearby was a sports thermos with some kind of alcoholic beverage in it. None of the teens admitted that the container was his or hers.

Parents for all four teenagers were contacted, and each child was taken home. The report did not indicate what the teenagers said, if anything, about why they were out.

The boy with the marijuana (3.4 grams of it) was taken to his home where police met with his father. The boy was given a juvenile referral summons for possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana and for possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a promise to appear Sept. 1 in state Juvenile Court in Stamford.

Editor’s note: The arrow in the map we link to that shows Maplewood Drive is meant to indicate where the street is, not a particular spot on the street.
