UPDATE, 1:17 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 9: From an email sent by Greg Bauer, one of the organizers:

“[B]oth of our speakers, Chief Lovello and SRO James Palmieri, have unfortunately had separate last minute conflicts arise, and they notified me they will not be able to join us this Saturday morning. While other officers kindly said they would be pleased to fill in, and we appreciate their willingness to do so, Tim and I think it’s best to reschedule their topic for another time.

“So, our next Fathers’ Forum meeting will be held on March 18 at the Darien YMCA from 8:00am to 9:30am, when Ingrid Gillespie, Executive Director of Communities4Action presents the findings of a ground breaking program called The 40 Developmental Assets…..requirements for children to grow from childhood through adolescence and into adulthood.  We look forward to Ingrid’s presentation which we know will stimulate a great discussion.  Please don’t hesitate to reach us if you have any questions.”

Original announcement:

Both Darien Police Chief Duane Lovello, who’s about to retire, and James Palmieri, who recently left his position as the police school resource officer at Darien High School (and is now assigned to the Detective Division) will speak Saturday morning, Feb. 11 at the Darien Fathers Forum.

Chief Lovello is a native of Stamford, Connecticut. He began his career with the Darien Police Department in December of 1981, serving as a patrol officer until being assigned to the Detective Division in October of 1986, where he served until his promotion to sergeant in July of 1993.

After a short return to the Patrol Division, he was reassigned to the Detective Division where he remained until his promotion to lieutenant in September of 2000. In December of 2000, he was promoted to captain and assumed command of the former Line Division, a command that held responsibility for the Patrol Division, Marine Division, and fleet and facility maintenance.

The Darien Fathers Forum

The Darien Fathers Forum meets on the second Saturday of the month from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Darien YMCA, 2420 Post Road.

From the Darien Fathers Forum Website:

Our program consists of eight meetings scheduled for the Second Saturday of the month, between October 8 and May 13, 2017 at the Darien YMCA in a conference room that’s adjacent to the front desk. Free of charge. Speakers will engage dads on pressing issues in parenting today and the distinct roles fathers play in shaping their sons’ and daughters’ lives.  But, more than simply listening, they’ll also participate in small breakout groups where men can explore the topics on a more personal level.
