Dora Mary Billingham Mix passed away peacefully on July 14 in Sarasota, Fl., one month before her 96th birthday.
Born Aug. 12, 1921 in Darien, she was the daughter of the late Raymond M. and Maude G. Billingham. Dora graduated from Stamford High School in 1939, and from the Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing in 1942.
She married Ralph Thresher Mix and together they raised four children. Dora enjoyed pursuing her hobbies of oil painting and rug hooking.
After Ralph’s retirement, the two became avid square dancers, joining clubs and making friends in both Connecticut and Florida. They also enjoyed traveling internationally on many cruises, and throughout the U.S. in their motor home.

In addition to her parents, Dora was predeceased by Ralph, her husband, of 63 years; her sister, Marion Billingham; and her son, Richard A. Mix.
Survivors include her three daughters, Judith Copland (and her husband, Edward) of Sarasota, Fl., Claire Fawcett (and her husband, James) of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Nancy Tucker of Randolph, Vt.; also her daughter-in-law, Robin Mix of Shelton. She is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Interment and a private service will be in Stamford at a later date. Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to the Bay Village Endowment Fund, 8400 Vamo Road, Sarasota, FL 34231.
