It is the first time in the company’s 70-year history that it has filmed a commercial on location outside of the store.  A holiday version of the commercial will be seen later in the season.

The film opens with a group of Darien middle school boys playing football on the expansive field at the beautiful Ox Ridge Hunt Club.

Historical Timeline: 1946 to Now

History was truly in the making when Stephen Zangrillo, known affectionately as “Mr. Z,” opened the Darien Sport Shop in August 1946 as a one-room 400-square foot sporting goods shop after returning home from serving with the U.S. Army during WWII.

He founded the store with little to no money in his pocket, but saw the business grow and expand over the years to become an iconic shopping destination which today is a renowned three-level department store that carries fine designer apparel, accessories, sporting goods and gifts for men, women and children.

His founding principles: The customer is always right, and the focus on building long-lasting relationships set a precedent in the industry and has transcended generations.

Darien Sport Shop is more than just a store; it is an icon of heritage, innovation, fine quality, and outstanding personal service.  We are dedicated to being a good neighbor in the communities we serve and supporting local causes.  We are honored to uphold our heritage and values and grateful to our family of loyal customers we have served for the past seven decades.
