To ensure a peaceful holiday season, please consider the following safety tips:

  • If you’re planning to go out of town for the holidays, let a trustworthy neighbor know so that they can keep an eye on your home. Don’t hide a key outside the house!
  • Consider placing a hold on your mail and newspaper delivery. If mail and newspapers pile up, it’s a sure sign that you’re not home.
  • If you are buying or selling items on Craigslist, Facebook, eBay or other online sites, please make use of our designated Safe Exchange location in the parking lot of the Darien Police Department (25 Hecker Avenue).
  • Keep your vehicle doors locked and any valuables out of view. Follow these practices when shopping and especially in your own driveway!
  • Consider adding emergency contacts to Nextdoor to provide your neighbors with another way to help out in case a safety concern arises. Go to your profile and select “Add Emergency Contacts”.
  • Arm your security system to protect your home, even if you are just running out for a quick errand. Most residential burglaries happen during the daytime and vacation season is a popular time for criminal activity.
  • If you see or hear anything suspicious, day or night, please call us right away. The men and women of the Darien Police Department will be working around the clock this holiday season to keep our community safe.
