A 14-year-old Darien boy left his bicycle at the bike rack near the book dropoff behind Darien Library at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 18. When his father came to pick him up at 1:30 p.m., the bicycle was gone.
The bike is a black and gray Cannondale hybrid Quick 5 valued at $700. It had a headlight attached to the handlebar. Police asked around the area if anyone had seen the bicycle taken away, but no one had.
Why would you not lock a bike? Be it Stamford or Darien.. I had one stolen in Edgartown (Martha’s Vineyard) once.
If you have to lock it, you can’t afford it? Clearly, not locking up your house, your car or anything, really, is a deeply cherished, longtime tradition in town.
