Bonnie M. Grey of Chester Village West in Chester, died peacefully in her sleep at home on Jan. 14. Her 90th birthday was joyfully celebrated with 18 family members on Aug. 7, 2016.

She was born in Chicago to Elizabeth and John Pettibone MacKenzie and moved to Buffalo, where she attended The Park School. The family then moved to Darien where she was a student at The Daycroft School, attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and later met and married William Grey.

They were married for 57 years before his passing in 2006. They raised their family and spent their married life in Sudbury and Chappaquiddick, Mass., Barrington, R.I., Hadlyme and finally Chester.

For many years, she worked for various retail businesses where her warm personality and good looks served her well. She and her husband were also very active in little theater groups. She knew the lyrics to most every show tune and ballad of the time.

After moving to Connecticut, and in retirement, she volunteered at the Lyme Library, the Lyme Public School, and happily served on the board of The Goodspeed Opera House. Memorial gifts may be sent to any of these organizations.

Bonnie is survived by her three children, Heidi Niblack and her husband, John, of Lyme, Christie Hoagland and her husband, Jay, of Rockport, Maine, and Cort Grey and his wife, Betsy, of Dover, N.J. Her four grandchildren include Noah Flaherty (Emily), Dylan Flaherty (Sarah), Mackenzie and Mallory Grey; and two great-grandchildren, Lilah and Aiden Flaherty.

She is also survived by her brother, Jack MacKenzie of Long Island City, N.Y. Her older brother, Donald Bain MacKenzie of the U.S. Army Air Corps, was killed in action while flying a combat mission over Europe in 1943 ,and her younger brother, Warren MacKenzie, passed away on Dec. 17, 2016.

A memorial service in the spring will be private.
