Winter/spring registration is now open for more than 70 classes at the Darien Arts Center. Offerings include dance, visual arts, music, new theatre classes and martial arts for children of all ages.

Ongoing classes for adults include ballet, tap, watercolor painting and martial arts. To see a full list of offerings or to register, visit darienarts.org or call (203) 655-8683. The DAC is located at 2 Renshaw Road, behind the Town Hall.

Adults

Ballet, Tap, and Martial Arts – $25 drop-in fee, 10-class card for $185, one-time annual $25 registration fee.

Watercolor Painting – Mon., 9:30-12:30 p.m., Feb. 1-April 18, all levels of ability. $385, $25 registration fee.

Dance

Dance Beginnings – ages 3 & 4, Thurs., 2-2:45 p.m., classes begin Jan. 28, for preschoolers to learn about dance and the joy of movement through body awareness and creativity. $280, $25 registration fee.

Pre-Ballet – ages 4 & 5, Thurs., 3-3:45 p.m., classes begin Jan. 28, a fun introduction to ballet using imaginative techniques to learn classical elements including floor and center work. $280, $25 registration fee.

Kinderballet – K only, Wed., 4-4:45 p.m., classes begin Jan. 27, a continuation of Pre-Ballet for the kindergartener. $280, $25 registration fee

Martial Arts – all ages, classes begin Jan. 25, designed to develop skills, coordination, self-defense and awareness. $280, $30 uniform fee, $25 registration fee.

Visual Arts

Mini Masters – ages 3-5, Fri., 1-1:45 p.m., Jan. 22-April 8, young learners will develop fine motor skills while creating paintings, collages and prints. $220, $25 registration fee.

XOXO Valentine Workshop – ages 5 and up, Sat. Feb. 6, 2-3:30 p.m., kids can lovingly craft Valentine-themed projects to take home or give as gifts. $30 per person, no registration fee.

Elementary Art Studio – ages 7-12, Wed., 3:40-4:40 p.m., Feb 3-May 25, experiment with line, color, texture, form and a variety of media: pastels, watercolors, acrylics and ink. $280, $25 registration fee.

Cartooning – ages 7-12, Mon., 4-5 p.m., Feb. 1-May 23, study facial expressions and body language to design characters for use in cartoons and comic strips. $280, $25 registration fee.

Intro to Animation – ages 7-12, Mon., 5:15-6:15 p.m., Feb. 1-May 23, learn the basics of 2D traditional animation, $280, $25 registration fee.

Click! Digital Photography – ages 9-12, Fri., 4:40-5:40 p.m., Feb. 5-May 27, use a digital camera, iPhone or iPod to take photos using basics like the rule of thirds, filling the frame, and negative space. $280, $25 registration fee.

Drawing/Painting – ages 10-15, Wed., 5:30-7 p.m., Jan. 13-March 23, advance drawing and painting skills using line, shape, color, texture and pattern. $300, $25 registration fee.

Music

Young Composers’ Composition Workshop – Jan. 27, 28, March 5, 6, 1-2:30 p.m., designed to help prepare for the Young Composers Festival this spring. Zach Heyde uses his extensive experience to help notate and provide commentary and polish for students’ preexisting pieces. With an opportunity to perform for family. $250, $25 registration fee.

Private and Group Instruction – Contact Music Director, Juanita Bosee at Juanita@darienarts.org for available classes in piano, drums, flute, violin, guitar, voice and composition.

NEW! Kids’ Theatre

Creative Dramatics – ages 3-5, Tuesdays, Feb. 23-May 17, or Thursdays, Feb. 25-May 19, 10:30-11:15 a.m., young children are introduced to theatre with games, rhymes, costumes, puppets and more to discover the magic of performing. $190, $25 registration fee.

Beginning Acting – grades K-2, Tues. 4-5 p.m., Feb. 23-May 17, a class where play and story are joined; children will work in a group in a non-stressful and encouraging atmosphere, developing methods of expression and awareness. $210, $25 registration fee.

Actor’s Toolbox – grades 3-5, Thurs., 3:45-4:45 p.m., Feb. 25-May 19, this class gets the young actor up and doing with short skits, stage movement, use of props and costumes. Last class is a showcase for family and caregivers. $210, $25 registration fee.

Lights, Camera, Action! – grades 6-8, Thurs., 5-6 p.m., Feb. 25-May 19, focuses on developing skills for acting and directing with video cameras. Filmed short skits and monologues will become part of a fun showcase of video clips. $210, $25 registration fee.
