Family Day Dinner is a national initiative spearheaded by CASA (the National Center for Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University) that informs parents about how the engagement fostered during frequent family dinners is an effective tool to help keep America’s kids substance free. CASA originally launched Family Day Dinner in 2001, and the Darien YMCA and The Thriving Youth Task force are proud to help keep the event in motion.

Studies show that the more often children eat dinner with their families; the less likely they are to engage in risky behaviors and substance abuse. In addition, these kids are more likely to have more family support, positive peer influences, and positive adult role models. Research shows that children with hands-on parents are far less likely to smoke, drink, or use other drugs. Dinner Makes a Difference!
